I feel like the "communities" that are being represented here are travelers. Which to me is immigrants now. The Indians back in the day would come down to the south during the winter because their crops would freeze over in the north. After traveling down here so much, they decide just to stay here and make their life here. Which in today's world, people from Mexico, or China or anywhere else in world come to America to make a life for themselves.
I grew up in the Bronx, New York and it was completely different then the way Immokalee is. I feel that Immokalee is a place where people came with nothing a built something amazing. When i was living in New York, thing were already done with and everyone minded their own business, but in Immokalee, it seemed that people would help each other out. The natives would help the travelers and the travelers would do the same for the natives.
Immokalee seems to represent the old and the new American Dream. It represents the old American dream because it shows how native Americans came down to Florida to make something of themselves and they native Americans would learn to be like a Floridan and make nice with neighbors and travelers. They would try to fit in, just like in the old American dream; but their story represents the new American dream because it shows how when the native Americans came down to Florida they tried to keep some on their customs.
FARMING! Is what is going to drive Immokalees future. It seems to be working for over 100 years and I feel like its never going to end because Immokalee is a perfect place to crop fields and bring in food to Publix's and other well known shopping centers.
I think Immokalee is going to be in the same place it is now because it hasn't changed in such along time. It is going to be the place to get food from crops and be the swap lands that people love.
100% agree! Farming is what's going to help Immokalee grow. Agriculture and cattle is what got them to where they are now, and they are very successful. And since food is a necessity of life and living, there is no way they could ever go out of business because it is something everyone needs.
